WhatsApp restricts message forwarding

Messaging app WhatsApp owned by Facebook has been helpful in communication during COVID-19 pandemic, it has helped health workers to be effective in their effort to contain the pandemic, it has also helped family and friends to stay in-touch with each other.

However, there has been an increase in the forwarding of unverified information on the app, initially a user can forward a message to 250 groups at once with a group capable of having hundreds of users but right now messages can only be forwarded to just 5 groups.

After reaching the limit of 5 groups, users will need to forward the message one at a time to their groups and contacts, some users are likely to find this inconveniencing and give up.

WhatsApp is trying to control the the forwarding of fake and unverified news during COVID-19 pandemic by placing this new limitis which are it’s strictest restrictions so far.
